Thakeham Parish Council met on Tuesday 15th September 2026 to discuss the newly revised application for the redevelopment of the Mushroom site which included 150 Homes, affordable housing, land for the Chanctonbury Community Land Trust, associated landscaping and open space for all residents and infrastructure to support road improvements including the Thakeham Parish Council Traffic Plan to reduce speeding and improve safety.

 

The Council discussed at length the pros and cons of the development against the backdrop of the current planning climate and other material considerations. On balance, the Council took the approach to try and limit the future development on the site and voted to Not Object to the application. The Council felt and commented that it has been put in an awkward position due to the current issues with the push for housing across the UK and securing a green belt around the site would better protect Thakeham from over-development in the future.
