Readers who aren't already familiar with our biodiversity improvement project for the Glebe Field are recommended to start by reading the initial 2020 report produced by Sussex Wildlife colleagues (see the bottom of this page). Since then, latest updates are:
Biodiversity Report Glebe Field June 2022
Biodiversity Survey Glebe Field August 2021
Sussex Wildlife Report 2020
The Parish Council is very pleased to publish this report, produced by a Sussex Wildlife Trust team led by (current Trust President) Dr Tony Whitbread, which assesses and 'snapshots' the ecological and biodiversity character of the Thakeham Glebe Field, based on species surveys in March, June and September 2020.
This follows the Parish Council's 2019 decision to take over the lease and management of this historic green space from Chichester Diocese, following the move of Thakeham First School to its new Rock Road site.
This thorough and expert report has given us valuable pointers towards the best approach to managing the field to enhance and enrich its ecology in the future.
The Parish Council and the Friends of the Glebe Field group would be pleased to hear from any local groups, schools, clubs etc. interested in visiting the field for organised recreational and educational activities or projects.
