We have been holding our work parties each month this year, sometimes with all the volunteers, sometimes with just one person, depending on conflicting commitments and injuries!
More help would be much appreciated! We now have 18 fruit trees to keep weed free, as well as other clearing tasks and maintaining our dead hedges, which are an important refuge for wildlife.
The trees were checked and pruned in March, under the entertaining and informative supervision of Roger Brown, from Steyning Community Orchards. He has been key to the whole orchard project.
The bee pole is back in operation, so we hope this will be used by solitary wild bees - do keep an eye on it as you stroll around the field.
Two moth experts are visiting the field regularly between April and September to record species of moths in the field. During their first visit they logged 23 species, and on the second visit they logged 45 species.
During daylight hours. you can admire not only our fabulous owl sculpture installation but also our newly installed barn owl box! Many thanks to Ben and Ashley for this. The box was sustainably made for us by a small local company, Lily's Cottage, using untreated recycled wood.
